How Jay Wright went from the hot seat to the title - ESPN

For three mornings last week -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -- Wright woke up with the same anxiety-ridden, sweat-inducing terror. "I've got to get prepared for Carolina,'' he thought. Retelling the story, he sits back in his chair and laughs at the absurdity of it. "You know when you have a bad dream, and you wake up and think, 'Thank God, that didn't actually happen'. This is the opposite of that,'' he says. Wright has spent the better part of a week trying to come to grips with his new normal. Still, he can't quite grasp what normal is. He has done countless interviews -- on the day he finally sat down to eat breakfast at 10:15, his media obligations began at 6:45 a. m. -- but he feels like he's talking about any big game -- like the... He knew people talked about it, but the people who mattered -- the school's president and athletic director -- didn't. That's what Wright has always loved about Villanova. It's a unique place, one that wants excellence but doesn't demand it instantaneously. The administration allowed Wright to grow, content that in his progress there was a future. This whole national championship thing, quite frankly, frightens him. As excited as he is, as proud as he is, the Jay Wright who sits down for breakfast is even more introspective, curious and concerned about what comes next. He explains how, right before he joined his team for the pregame meal on national championship Monday, he cued up Villanova's 2009 national semifinal game against North Carolina on his laptop. In the days leading up to and in the days of Final Four weekend, Wright used that experience as a what-not-to-do prep kit. Instead of welcoming anyone and everyone into film sessions and team meetings, as he did in 2009, he sequestered his players from everyone, recognizing that seven years earlier, his team was satisfied with merely arriving at the final weekend of... In Wright's opinion, this team won not because it wanted to prove people wrong but because it didn't care what people thought. For five of the past six years, Villanova had been dogged by early NCAA tournament flameouts and labeled an epic disappointment. Yet when the Wildcats got to their Waterloo moment in this tournament -- a second-round date against Iowa -- they played their best game and humiliated the Hawkeyes by 19 points. "That was the most pressure on them, supposedly, and they didn't care,'' Wright says, marveling at it. "We talked for years about how this tournament doesn't define you, but for them to believe it was big. I'm 54 years old. Source: espn.go.com

Mille Lacs walleye fight thrashes into state Capitol - INFORUM

He also said he'd introduce a bill to override the DNR's regulations. Brown made good on his promise three days later, introducing a bill March 24 that would set the limit on Mille Lacs at two fish and allow live bait to be used. The overall size limit is unspecified in Brown's bill, although it does stipulate if the fish is 17 to 29 inches in length, or over 28 inches in length, only one such fish can be kept. The same day Brown introduced his legislation, DFL Gov. Mark Dayton responded via a written statement to criticism of the DNR's decision. "I understand that the upcoming fishing season will be extremely difficult and painful for Lake Mille Lacs resort operators, fishing guides, and everyone else, who depend upon the lake's walleye fishing, as well as for its thousands of anglers,"... "Understandably, no one likes the very tight restrictions the DNR has imposed on walleye fishing there. The experts in DNR and on the Mille Lacs Advisory Committee can disagree about whether those restrictions are necessary and proper. However, no one should doubt that they were made with the shared goal of permanently restoring the number of walleyes, which have made Lake Mille Lacs world-famous. Dayton also responded to Brown's assertion the DNR is trying to destroy the Mille Lacs economy. "To say that the DNR wants to destroy the Mille Lacs economy is so ignorant and untrue that it does not deserve a response. "The DNR isn't trying to damage the economy," he said. Dayton's office has been "very supportive" of trying to find a solution to the Mille Lacs issue, Brown said. Dayton proposed a special session last summer to pass a financial aid package for the region, but legislators shot the special session idea down. Brown's bill to force a walleye harvest, which had no co-sponsors as of Tuesday, would not be getting a committee hearing, Brown said. However, Brown said the regulation override bill helped bring the DNR to the negotiating table. As a result, Brown, said, he was able to add—with DNR support—an amendment to the Senate's fish and game bill that would require the DNR to conduct a report on hooking mortality, and reexamine its data collection. The newer body is the Mille Lacs Fisheries Advisory Committee, a citizen input group formed by the DNR to help improve its. Source: www.inforum.com

Employees bound by hands, feet during Pauls Valley armed robbery - KOCO Oklahoma City

A customer called police around 10:55 a. m. after noticing that the doors were locked, and the blinds were closed at Legacy Drug pharmacy, 111 W. Grant Ave. When officers arrived, they found two men wearing mask leaving the store, carrying several items. The men fled and officers chased, the release said. Officers from the Pauls Valley Police Department, Garvin County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma Highway patrol responded to the area. Officers arrested Jeremy Lavorchek, 28, following the foot pursuit but did not take the second man into custody. The second man was described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds and having short strawberry blond hair. He was wearing a dark blue coat and dark blue pants. Investigators learned that two men entered the drug store with firearms and bound all of the employees by their hands and feet. Police recovered a large quantity of narcotics that were taken from the store, three firearms, cash and other pieces of evidence. Anyone with information about the second man is asked to call the Pauls Valley Police Department at 405-238-5531. Source: www.koco.com
